controversies
On March 17, 2009, during a segment with Doug Benson, Greg Gutfeld mocked the Canadian military. This caused an uproar among Canadian citizens, especially as three soldiers were reported to have died in Afghanistan. Even Canadian Defense Minister Peter MacKay pressured Fox and demanded an apology. In response, Greg issued the following statement:-
The March 17 episode of Red Eye featured a segment discussing Canada’s plan for a “synchronized pause,” which was in no way an attempt to downplay the troop effort. However, I realize that my words may have been misunderstood. It was not my intention to disparage the brave men, women and families of the Canadian Army, and for that I apologize.” (CBC)
Another controversial issue arose when Greg announced he was opening a gay-friendly bar next door Ground Zero Mosque. This may have been a joke, but was considered bad taste.
Marriage and children
Greg and Elena met at “Maxim” in London. According to several sources, Gutfeld published an article for his future wife in which he highlighted her hair and eyes. During an interview with the daily beast, he stated: “When I saw her, I said to the editor of Maxim Russia, ‘Who is this woman?’ And I foolishly beat her for three days. She was pretty cold to me, and I finally asked her out.” They dated for five months and then got married in December 2004 in New York, USA.
