BCCI said that a total of 1525 players registered their names for the tournament, out of which a final list was prepared. In which 409 players got place. Of these, 246 players are from India, while 163 foreign players will enter the auction.

The stage is set for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) as the Board of Control for Cricket in India has officially announced the player auction. After days of speculation, the BCCI on Tuesday, February 7, shared with fans the details of the WPL’s first ever ‘Player Auction’, not only the date and time of the auction but also the number of players to be bid on. The BCCI said that the fate of a total of 409 players will be decided in the first auction, out of which 90 may be selected.

BCCI announced the auction of 5 franchises of WPL last month. In which Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi and Lucknow franchises were found. Out of these, the franchises of Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi went to the IPL franchises of these cities, while Ahmedabad was bought by Adani Sportsline and Lucknow by Capri Global. Since then people were waiting for the auction.

One and a half thousand registrations

Like the IPL, women’s IPL has been in demand for a long time. Not only the fans but also the big women cricketers of the world including India were raising their voices for it and now that this tournament is starting, there was a lot of enthusiasm among the cricketers for it. It can be estimated from the registration of players.

BCCI said that a total of 1525 players registered their names for the tournament, out of which a final list was prepared. In which 409 players got place. Of these, 246 players are from India, while 163 foreign players will enter the auction. 8 of the foreign players are also from associate countries. A total of 202 players are capped, while 199 are uncapped.

Space for only 90 players

Only these 409 players will be auctioned on February 13 in Mumbai. BCCI said that a total of 90 players can be bought. In which 30 may be foreigners. So each team can buy maximum 18 players in their team.

Indian team captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma and Under-19 World Champion captain Shefali Verma have registered themselves for the highest base prize of Rs 50 lakh. Apart from that, 20 other players have held the highest base prize. It also has big foreign faces like Alice Perry, Sophie Eccleston, Sophie Devine.

The auction will be held in Mumbai

The first auction of WPL will take place in Mumbai on February 13. It will be held at the Jio World Convention Center and the one-day auction will begin at 2.30 pm. Then the tournament will start from March 4. While the final match will be played on March 26. 5 teams will play a total of 22 matches in this tournament and the entire tournament will be played at two venues in Mumbai, Brabourne Stadium and DY Patil Stadium.
