Gujaratis are the best as philanthropists and wherever Gujaratis live, they have built social institutions including education and health. These generous Gujaratis are now coming forward to donate organs. Organ donation is considered the best donation because it can give life to others. According to the recently released National Organ and Tissue Transplantation Organization (NOTO) report, Gujarat ranks fourth according to the data from 2013 to 2022. Gujarat has received a total of 148 body donations in 2022. This is the first time that Gujarat has been ranked first. Out of 148 donated bodies, 399 organs have been retrieved and donated. Telangana is leading in body donation. They have recovered 655 organs from 194 dead bodies, Tamil Nadu 553 organs from 156 bodies, Karnataka 435 organs from 151 bodies. Gujarat received 70 dead body donations in 2021, which has increased to 148 in 2022. Credit for this goes to the government institutions as they understand the brain dead patient’s family well and play a huge role in timely organ retrieval and preservation.
However, as much as there is a demand for organs, not so many organs are donated. Hence people need to turn more towards this direction.
