The next Tamil Sangam program will be held in Somnath from 17 to 20 April. Through the Saurashtra Tamil Sangam programme, PM Narendra Modi’s resolve of Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat will come true. Through this program, an attempt will be made to reconnect the Saurashtra residents living in Tamil Nadu with the present state of Gujarat. Parliamentary Minister Rishikesh Patel appealed to as many people as possible to participate in the press conference held at Rajkot and said that there are more than 25 lakh Soorath residents in Tamil Nadu, they migrated 1200 years ago. In ‘Saurashtra Tamil Sangam’ they will meet the motherland.
The people of Saurashtra migrated by sea
Parliamentary Minister Rishikesh Patel said that more than 25 lakh Saurashtra residents have settled in Tamil Nadu state of India keeping their identity as old Saurashtra residents intact as well as the tradition and heritage of their Saurashtra area. Among the 12 Jyotirlinga of India, Lord Somnath, the first Jyotirlinga of the year, was invaded by the foreign invader Mohammed Ghazni in the year 1024. At that time, a large number of Saurashtra communities living there migrated by sea from Somnath Prabhas Patan Veraval and the surrounding area. It is said that this was one of the largest exodus in the history of the world.
Rejoined after a gap of 1000 years
He further said that since the year 1500, the community settled within Madurai and the surrounding area, there was an effort for years to re-connect this community with present day Gujarat. But in the year 2005 and 2006, the then Chief Minister of Gujarat state and now Prime Minister Narendra Bhai Modi held a meeting with the leaders including the then Chancellor and Vice Chancellor of Saurashtra University and motivated them to establish contact with this community. Officially, this Saurashtra community was reunited with Gujarat after a gap of 1000 years. Presently, there are many fun exchange programs going on between the Saurashtra community of Gujarat state and Tamil Nadu in various fields.
More than 50 thousand Saurashtra residents flocked
He further said that the Virat Saurashtra Sangam was organized at Madurai in 2010 in the presence of the then CM Narendra Modi and more than 50,000 Saurashtra residents gathered in it. Prime Minister Modi has since met with this community from time to time and has encouraged exchange activities with Gujarat. Prime Minister Narendra Bhai Modi conceptualized a unique program embodying the very historic and national unity concept of the Saurashtra Tamil Sangam with the noble aim of embodying the concept of “Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat”.
Big convention in April
He further said that today it is a feeling of pride and excitement to mention that after a period of almost 1200 years, within the next month of April, the Saurashtra community living in Tamil Nadu in a large form will gather at Somnath, their native land, their native land, mother land. It will be an important historical event.
