You may have seen the players running on the cricket field, but if you watch the video that captures the moments of wheelchair-bound cricketers running for batting, bowling and fielding, you will surely be amazed. There is no doubt about it.
It is a privilege for cricket fans to see the disabled cricketers of India, who are very fond of cricket but cannot walk on the ground with their own feet, fulfill their wishes with wheelchairs. It is a matter of pride for our Gujaratis that the competition of this game is held and Gujarat becomes the champion.
The thing is that the wheelchair cricket competition was organized in Kolkata on March 4th and 5th, and the Indian Gladiators team under the captaincy of Bhima Khunti, a retired cricketer from Gujarat, created history. In the final of the match, this team defeated the Indian Fighters team and gave the Gujarati people the gift of chaos by scoring the champion trophy in the name of Gujarat. In response to Indian Fighters team scoring 143 runs for three wickets in 10 overs, Bhima Khunti’s team achieved the target in 7.3 overs and won this match by nine wickets.
With this victory Bhima Khunti of Porbandar has brightened the name of Gujarat. On the day of the final, he was presented with this trophy by India’s former star bowler R.P. was awarded by Singh. Former batsman Vinod Kambli, Wheelchair Cricket India Association president Abhay Pratap Singh and Indian wheelchair cricket team captain Somjit Singh also congratulated Bhima and his team.
It may be mentioned that this supplement of Mumbai Samachar had long ago printed an interview of Bhima Khunti mentioning his struggle and world record games. He also expressed his belief during the interview that while we see a strange kind of mania for the game of cricket there, the way Indian disabled players struggle and play the game on the field is not appreciated enough by the Indian audience. Congratulations to him today as he added another feather to Gujarat’s success by winning the final.
