Stones were pelted on the car of Congress-Left leaders with slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently attended the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected BJP government in Tripura. Opposition leaders in the state were attacked on Friday, March 10, just days after the formation of the new government. Shouting slogans of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Jai Shri Ram’, a mob of miscreants pelted stones at their vehicles.
More than 20 shops were torched in the violence that followed the swearing-in ceremony in Nehalchandranagar, a border village of Bishalgarh subdivision. Opposition MPs, MLAs and local leaders visited the affected area. In the meantime, some people shouted slogans and attacked their vehicles. A police escort team swung into action and rescued the members of the delegation safely.
As soon as the delegation of CPI(M) MP E Karim, Congress MP Abdul Khaliq and AICC General Secretary Ajay Kumar landed in the Nehalchandranagar market, they were attacked by miscreants shouting ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Jai Shri Ram’.
According to the Tripura Police, all members are safe and none of the eight-member team was injured in the attack in Nehalchandranagar, Sipahijala. He said that one person has been detained in connection with this incident. Some vehicles used by the fact finding team were also vandalized by unidentified miscreants.
Accusing the police of being silent spectators, Rajya Sabha MP KC Venugopal strongly condemned the attack on a Congress-Left Front delegation visiting the violence-hit areas of Tripura on Friday. Along with the tweet, the Congress leader has also shared a video of the alleged attack.
