Well, it looks like it’s finally over. After what many would call too long, Marvel’s Avengers gives in and stops development.
The disappointing title was a pretty big hit for the Marvel’s nickname, with players immediately frustrated by the limited approach to gameplay, especially in co-op multiplayer.
Marvel’s Avengers continues to grow despite fan frustrations, with the few remaining players being offered new heroes and the War for Wakanda DLC.
Now it looks like it’s finally coming to an end, and Square Enix seems pretty excited about it.

When Will Square Enix Kill Marvel’s Avengers?
click to enlargeA new announcement from Square Enix and the Marvel’s Avengers team has confirmed that the game will finally end its online live services, after launching just a few years ago.
“After two and a half years and the release of twelve of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, after Update 2.8 on March 31, 2023, we will no longer be adding any new content or features to Marvel’s Avengers“is reading the new message made on the game’s site.
“All official support for the game will end on September 30, 2023.” The post reveals that from this date, players’ in-game currencies will be converted into materials that will help them in their games, and the online store will be closed so players can no longer pay.
“We know this is disappointing news as everyone in our community has such a connection to these characters and their stories,” the post continues.
“We are so, so grateful that you went on an adventure with us. Your excitement for Marvel’s Avengers – from your epic photos in photo mode, to your threads theorizing who our next heroes would be, to your Twitch streams – has been instrumental in bringing this game to life.”
But it doesn’t end there – because Square Enix has a pretty sweet parting gift for players.
Marvel’s Avengers is giving away all its cosmetics for free
In a massive move from Square Enix, Marvel’s Avengers offers players full access to the game’s online store, allowing them to download cosmetics, challenge maps, and shipments to their heart’s content absolutely free of charge.
The superhero ensemble will let players enter their store for free starting March 31, 2023, before the game’s online servers are completely disconnected.
It’s a great offer for fans, even though there are few left. Marvel’s Avengers will officially be over this year, and while we saw this coming, it’s still a surprise to see the store begin to go quiet. It’s the end of an era.
