Half the travel time will be saved
Following Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s order, the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) has started activities to extend the proposed Versova to Virar Sea Link to Palghar now and a report will be prepared soon. The Versova-Virar Sea Bridge project was earlier with the State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). But now this project has been transferred to MMRDA. MMRDA is trying to start the third Sealink in Mumbai by the end of this year.
The cost of the proposed sea bridge project has increased by nearly eight thousand crores. The initial cost of this project was around 32 thousand crores. Now this cost has increased to about 40 thousand crores. MMRDA will verify the reports prepared by MSRDC before starting the bridge work. A fresh inspection report of the original report will be prepared. MMRDA has issued a tender for this, through which the consultant will be appointed. This will be the third sea link in Mumbai from Versova to Palghar. A 5.6 km Sealink between Bandra and Worli was constructed in 2010. Thousands of vehicles ply through this bridge every day. So 17 km sea link from Bandra to Versova is in progress. 11 thousand 332 crores will be spent for Yapul with 8 lanes. The government plans to connect these three sea links.
The government has decided to do the work of the third sea link in two phases. The first phase was planned to run from Versova to Vasai and the second phase from Vasai to Virar. But now it will be increased and taken to Palghar. Drivers’ facilities will also be fully considered. Four connectors will be constructed in the route. After the bridge is constructed, the travel time will be halved.
The total length of the Versova-Palghar route will be 42.75 km. This route will have four connections Charkop, Mira-Bhinder, Vasai, Virar. Sea bridges will be connected from these four places. This route will be at a distance of one kilometer from the sea shore. Andheri West to Virar will be connected through this route. There will be four toll plazas at Gorai, Uttan, Vasai and Virar. A special route of 18.46 km from this route to Vasai is also proposed.
