Who is Nicole Curtis?

Nicole Curtis was born on August 20, 1976 in Lake Orion, Michigan, USA. She is a realtor, producer, interior designer and television personality, probably best known for her work on the television series “Rehab Addict”. The show focuses on the restoration or preservation of older homes and sales, commonly referred to as “flipping”—as opposed to demolition, which involves starting over the design.

The wealth of Nicole Curtis

As of the beginning of 2020, Nicole Curtis’ net worth is estimated to be over $7 million, earned through a successful career in television and her restoration business. She has been working in the design field for most of her life and also sells houses which have also generated a lot of profit.

Beginning of early life, education and career

Growing up in Lake Orion, Nicole became familiar with the renovation industry at a young age thanks to her parents, who owned a home renovation business in Detroit, and their success inspired her to pursue a similar field as well. She learned the basics from them, though her parents insisted she finish her education.

She attended nearby Lake Orion High School, and after she graduated, the family realized that it would also cost too much to go to a good college, so to help her earn extra money, she started working in restaurant Hooters as one of the servers of the popular restaurant – Hooters is known for its use of young women often referred to as Hooters Girls.

These women are often chosen based on their sex appeal, and they use outfits to enhance it even further. The restaurant offers burgers, sandwiches, alcoholic drinks, chicken wings and more. The name is derived from the owl’s hoot, but is also ambiguous, as Hooters is also the slang for breasts, as popularized by comedian Steve Martin.

Renovation companies

Curtis used her time at Hooters wisely, as she was able to talk to numerous business people, including some Chief Executive Officers (CEOs), to learn more about running a successful business. In her spare time she developed her design skills and expanded her interest and knowledge in restoration.

Contrary to new design trends, she advocates the use of classic styles that match the original design of the house. This philosophy would help define her career in the future.

She started working in a cleaning company and also did a few design projects. Due to the success of this first business, she chose to leave university to focus on her work; she obtained a realtor license and began restoring and selling homes in the Minneapolis area. She attracted attention and was eventually approached by television networks to become a recurring guest on the show “Sweat Equity”, which airs on the Do It Yourself (DIY) network and focuses on renovations that help homeowners save more money .

She teamed up with Amy Matthews, a well-known contractor who also works as a personal trainer.

Addicted to rehab

In 2010, Nicole’s expertise and business acumen led her to present her own show. She teamed up with other veteran producers to help launch the show.Addicted to rehab”, which was picked up by both the DIY and Home and Garden Television (HGTV) networks. With the creation of the show, they quickly separated themselves from the pack of renovators by discovering more about restoration and conservation. Much of her work has appeared in publications in various parts of the country.

She has primarily worked in the Minnesota area, her home state of Michigan, and the state of Ohio.

Because of her expertise, she is often consulted when it comes to the renovation of homes built before the Second World War. She restores them to their original glory instead of incorporating more modern design styles. She later returned to school to complete a degree in education, and considered going to law school, but ultimately went against it. She also renovated a house in Detroit herself whose history dates back to 1904. The show has been running for eight seasons, but no news has come out for the upcoming seasons since 2018.

Other projects

Due to her close ties to DIY, Curtis has also been approached to make guest appearances on other shows. She appeared in “Daryl’s restoration above Hall‘, in which he collaborates with Hall & Oates singer Daryl Hall. The show has a similar feel to hers, as Hall favors vintage and historic homes with the intention of restoring them to their original structure. In the show, she has helped design 18th-century houses and farms.

She was also a guest on the reality competition series ‘Beach Flip’, a show where four teams compete against each other to renovate beach houses built in the 1980s.

The team has eight weeks to renovate the house and hopefully increase its value – the winner of the show would win $50,000. However, the show did not become very popular and was canceled after the first season. Lately, she has not been focused on other projects, although she has confirmed that she will be returning to HGTV Get on her show “Rehab Addict”. She has also written an autobiographical book detailing her journey so far.

Private life

Nicole has never been married, although she has had two long-term relationships.

The first was with a man named Steve, who she dated for over a decade. They have a son together, but their relationship eventually soured and they separated in 1996. Sometime in the 2000s, she started dating Shane Maguire and the two also have a child together. They stayed together until 2015 before breaking up which led to a very long relationship custody battle for their child. The two eventually reached multiple compromises to achieve shared custody. As part of the settlement, she has agreed to set up a trust fund for their child and also use some of her finances to help her ex-partner buy a house in California to have easier access to the child.
