The India-Australia teams are playing the third Test match in Indore, meanwhile the ICC has released the latest Test rankings. India’s star off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has climbed to the top spot in the latest ICC Test bowling rankings for men. He has surpassed James Anderson. Ashwin achieved this position due to his recent performances. He took 6 wickets (3/57 and 3/59) in India’s emphatic win against Australia in the second Test of the current series. It has gained two positions. After England’s defeat to New Zealand in the Wellington Test, Anderson dropped to second place.
The 36-year-old Ashwin first achieved the distinction of being the number-1 Test bowler in 2015. After this he has come to the top many times. Ashwin took a big wicket in India’s win in Delhi. He returned Marnus Labuchen and Steve Smith in the same over of the first innings. After this, Ashwin sent Alex Carey to the pavilion without opening the account. In the second innings, the all-rounder off-spinner again took three wickets in the top five, while his spin-bowling partner Ravindra Jadeja pushed the rest of Australia’s players into the pavilion at the other end. In the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia, Ashwin has a chance to be No.1 after performing brilliantly in the remaining two Test matches.
Ashwin currently has 864 rating points while James Anderson has 859 rating points. Ashwin is the third bowler to reach the top of the Test rankings in the last three weeks. Last time, Anderson did not get the top spot after beating Australian captain Pat Cummins. Cummins is third in the latest rankings. Jadeja, who took 10 wickets in the second Test against Australia, has also reached the 8th position in the bowling rankings. Jadeja and Ashwin occupy the top two positions in the Test all-rounder rankings. So now three Indian players are in the top-10 in the ranking of Test bowlers. Jasprit Bumrah has now reached number-4, apart from him Jadeja is also at number-8.
