Genshin Impact Thoma build | Pocket tactics

by Ana Lopez

Genshin Impact’s Thoma is the sweetest cinnamon bun you will ever meet. He also happens to be a pretty good house man, and a rogue four-star pyro-polearm user with a great shield against a higher investment. In this Genshin Thoma built we take a look at his skills, constellations, best weapons and more so you can give him the respect he deserves after all the hard work he puts in at the Kamisato household.

Genshin Impact Thomas

What is the best Genshin Thoma build?

Thoma is a pyro support character capable of protecting his team with his ability and burst, while also setting fire to his enemies and shredding their defenses. He is rather situational, but currently has the second strongest shield at max stacks and offers great stagger resistance. He is quite cost effective, requires a low investment and less resin to build than other characters.

However, he has extremely high energy recharge requirements, his damage and abilities don’t scale well, and he’s a fairly niche option for most teams, meaning he can usually be replaced with a more powerful unit.

Don’t sleep on Thoma though. Especially in the current, dendro-heavy meta of Sumeru, he finds a permanent place among many elemental reaction teams.

When is the next Genshin Thoma build?

You have a slim chance of picking up Thoma on a banner, but his most recent featured banner gives him a huge boost alongside Genshin’s Childe and Genshin’s Yae Miko.

What is the best Genshin Thoma weapon?

Due to Thoma’s desperate need to recharge energy, we recommend equipping him with all weapons that enhance that stat. Engulfing Lightning is a great choice for elemental interaction teams, as it has both energy recharge and elemental mastery, but is more often better used on Genshin Impact’s Raiden or Genshin Impact’s Xiangling.

Alternatively, Favonius Lance is an excellent choice, helping you meet your energy charging requirements, but you need a lot of criticism to reliably activate the passive. If you have an extra Skyward Spine, this also works to boost his energy recharge, but offers little else.

Outside of the above, the Catch is the best free-to-play option but, like Engulfing Lightning, is highly contested by other characters. A good alternative is Kitain Cross Spear, which lags behind in its general buffs, but is much more affordable for a niche character like Thoma.

Weapon Effect
Lightning flood Increases attack by 28% energy charge from base 100%. You can get a maximum bonus of 80% attack. Get 30% energy charge for 12 seconds after using an elemental burst
Favonius Lance Hits have a 60% chance to generate a small amount of element particles, which will regenerate six energy for the character. Can only occur once every 12 seconds
Celestial Spine Increases critical hit by 8% and increases normal attack speed by 12%. In addition, normal and charged attacks on opponents have a 50% chance to activate a vacuum blade that deals 40% of the attack as damage in a small AoE. This effect cannot occur more than once every two seconds
The catch Increases the damage of elemental bursts by 16% and the critical speed of elemental bursts by 6%
Kitain cross spear Increases elemental ability damage by 6%. After your elemental ability hits an opponent, your character will lose three energy, but regenerate three energy every two seconds for the next six seconds. This effect can occur once every ten seconds. Can be activated even when the equipment character is not on the field

What are the best Genshin Thoma artifacts?

If you plan to use Thoma on a melting or vaporization team, a four-piece set of instructors is a good choice due to its high elemental mastery. However, it is not without caveats. Instructor costs him his shield power, provides no energy charge and the required number of crits for Favonius Lance’s passive.

Alternatively, if no one else has a set of Noblesse Oblige on the team, then it’s a good option for Thoma. Make sure to only use this if Thoma has enough energy to recharge regularly.

A really strong set combines two Tenacity of the Milelith with two Emblem of Severed Fate, allowing him to recharge energy and HP% for his shield, although it can take quite a bit of resin to get this set with all the sub-stats you need.

Artifact set Effect
The instructor Two equipped: elemental mastery +80
Four equipped: increases the elemental mastery of all party members after activating an elemental reaction by 120 for eight seconds
Noble obligation Two equipped: elemental burst damage +20%
Four equipped: increases the attack of all party members by 20% for 12 seconds after using an elemental burst. This effect cannot be stacked
Emblem of the cut fate Two equipped: energy charging increases by 20%
Four equipped: elemental burst damage increases by 25% of Thoma’s energy charge. Up to 75% bonus damage can be obtained this way
Tenacity of the Millelith Two equipped: HP increases by 20%
Four equipped: when an elemental ability hits an enemy, nearby party members’ attack is increased by 20% and their shield strength by 30% for three seconds. This can be activated every 0.5 seconds. It can still activate even if Thoma is not on the field

Statistical recommendations

Your priority should be to charge Thoma at least 200-250% energy over anything else.

Key stats:

  • sand: charge energy
  • Cup: HP%
  • round: HP% or crit rate (crit rate is important here if you use Favonius Lance)

Substats:

  • Charging energy
  • Criteria (when using Favonius Lance)
  • HP%
  • PK
