The valley is full of all kinds of cute critters and animals that you can interact with and even tame as your little sidekicks. However, not every type of critter available will always be present in the valley. You need to enter the game at the right time to find the races you want to tame, and we’ve created a detailed schedule and guide to help you do just that.

Like the character’s sleep schedules, bugs also have set schedules of appearing and disappearing around the valley. There are different colored species of each animal species, but only two appear at a time, and they cycle in and out regularly on certain days and times. You don’t have to worry too much about time zones, as Disney Dreamlight automatically syncs to your local time. Here is a list of all the types of critters and the times they appear around the valley:

Frequently Asked Questions about Disney Dreamlight Valley Critter

Here are some additional tips and information on all things critter related in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

Why should you feed critters?

By feeding critters their favorite treats, you can tame them enough to become suitable companions to accompany you through the valley. Although they don’t have much impact on the world, they still look cute by your side and you can pet them by pressing them with A on Xbox and Switch, X on PlayStation, or E on PC.

How often do you have to feed a critter to tame it?

When you feed a critter its favorite food, it will show hearts, indicating that they are one step closer to being tamed and a possible companion. However, not all critters take the same amount of time to be tamed. While squirrels usually only need one feeding to be tamed, more difficult animals, such as foxes or ravens, can take up to four or more times. You will have to be diligent to collect them all.

Why won’t the beast approach you?

Some critters, such as crocodiles and raccoons, startle quickly and take longer to approach. Occasionally you will find that they just won’t allow you to approach them at all. In my own experience, I’ve found that this glitch is more likely to occur when there are a lot of obstacles and debris around the biome. Critters will try to run away, but tend to get stuck on objects or take longer to follow the space around them. You can always leave the biome and tenant to try again or make sure the area is better cleared before trying.

How can you equip a beast as a companion?

Once you feed a critter its favorite food enough times, it will eventually become an available companion. You can change your companions at any time, just like your other accessories or outfits. Open your character inventory by pressing Y on Xbox and Switch, Triangle on PlayStation, or l on PC. Then select the Wardrobe tab. Here you will find the Companions category, which shows you all the critters you have tamed and can equip.

How can you get special critters?

There are special critters you can get beyond the ones you find in the valley. These are often specifically themed critters from a Disney movie or for a particular event. You can usually find them unlockable through the star path or sometimes by completing missions for different characters.

We hope this list of critter schemes and tips helps you tame the companion you’ve wanted and become better acquainted with how the critters operate in Disney Dreamlight Valley. We’ll keep this page updated with any future critters added as well, so check back often.
