New Delhi: The Uddhav Thackeray group boycotted the Congress dinner party on the issue of insulting freedom fighter Veer Savarkar. In fact, after Rahul Gandhi’s membership as an MP of Lok Sabha was revoked, the Congress party launched a scathing attack on the BJP government at the Centre. As part of this protest, the Congress organized a one-day satyagraha, after which all the opposition leaders arrived in the Parliament House today in black clothes and registered a protest. Tonight Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge hosted a dinner party for all opposition MPs as part of the protest, but Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena party boycotted it. Not a single Thackeray group leader was present at the dinner party. Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said that no leader was present in this party.

Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena did not attend the dinner party because of Rahul Gandhi’s Savarkar statement, Raut said. Rahul Gandhi held a press conference on Saturday after Rahul Gandhi lost the Lok Sabha seat. In this press conference, when someone asked if he would have apologized, Rahul Gandhi replied that my name is not Savarkar, my name is Gandhi. The first reaction to Rahul Gandhi’s statement came from the BJP and condemned the statement, after which Uddhav Thackeray also strongly criticized it on Sunday. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also slammed Rahul Gandhi on Rahul Gandhi’s statement.
