America has once again supported India on the Arunachal issue. The US considers the McMahon Line dividing China and Arunachal Pradesh to be an international border. A bipartisan resolution has been presented in the US Senate on this issue, in which Arunachal Pradesh has been considered an integral part of India. Senators Bill Hagerty and Jeff Markle, who presented this proposal, said that ‘while China is becoming a challenge for the free Indo-Pacific Ocean. In such a situation, it is necessary for America to stand shoulder to shoulder with its strategic partners, especially India.
“This bipartisan resolution clearly demonstrates the Senate’s support for recognizing Arunachal Pradesh as an integral part of India, condemning China’s military aggression to change the status quo along the Line of Actual Control,” Senator Jeff said on Tuesday.
The proposal also talked about strengthening the strategic partnership between the US and India and increasing cooperation in the Quad. The proposal also criticizes China’s claim to Bhutan’s border. The resolution, jointly presented by both sides of the US Senate, also praised India’s stand against China’s provocative actions and emphasized on strengthening technical and economic ties with India.
The proposal by the US Senate comes at a time when violent clashes are taking place between Chinese troops and Indian troops in the eastern sector of the LAC.
