The Income Tax Department conducted an income tax survey yesterday (February 14) at BBC’s Delhi and Mumbai offices. The Income Tax survey continued throughout the night yesterday, which is likely to continue today. According to media reports, phones and laptops of all the employees were seized during this time.
Officials sealed the BBC’s offices for a probe into alleged diversion of profits and irregularities in transfer pricing. After overnight investigation, the survey will continue today. Sources say that Income Tax officials have been probing the account details since 2012.
On Tuesday, BBC also tweeted about this matter. It said that “Income Tax officials are currently in the BBC’s offices in New Delhi and Mumbai and we are cooperating fully. We hope this situation will be resolved soon.”
Ever since the news of the IT survey at the BBC office broke, the opposition has been attacking the government. Congress has called it a dictatorship. “Dictators are cowards,” the official Congress Twitter account said. Apart from this, many big Congress leaders have condemned this survey.
